April Vukelic, D.O., FMCP-M ReCODE 2.0 Certified Physician
Dr. April Vukelic is quadruple board-certified by the Institute for Functional Medicine, the American Board of Family Medicine, the American Board of Preventive Medicine, and the American Board of Addiction Medicine. In 2022, she was appointed Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Vukelic authored one chapter and co-authored seven others in Nutrition and Integrative Medicine for Clinicians, Volume 2 (Routledge Press), alongside Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, Dr. Andrew Heyman, and Larry Schwartz, IEP. She is the sole author of the chapter Mechanisms of Potential Central Nervous System Injury in Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome. Dr. Vukelic received the CIRSx/Shoemaker Book Award in 2023 for her work on the textbook.
She is also co-author of a peer-reviewed article on CIRS indexed on PubMed: Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome: A Review of the Evidence of Clinical Efficacy of Treatment (Dooley, Vukelic, Jim; Annals of Medicine and Surgery, 2024). She received editorial credit on the 2020 Surviving Mold remediation update and completed Greg Weatherman's Small Particle Remediation course.
Dr. Vukelic is certified in the Shoemaker Protocol for biotoxin illness and is a founding member of the CIRS Academy. She has a published case study in Dr. Shoemaker's book, The Art and Science of CIRS Medicine.
She is certified in Dr. Dale Bredesen's ReCODE 2.0 program and is particularly well-versed in the environmental, dietary, and traumatic factors affecting patients with cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Patients may complain of "brain fog," but that term does not adequately convey the significant neurological impact of biotoxin exposure from water-damaged buildings. The vast majority of CIRS patients experience word-finding difficulty, memory problems, confusion, disorientation, concentration issues, and difficulty assimilating new information. Dr. Vukelic uses Dr. Shoemaker's peer-reviewed, evidence-based approach in treating these patients.
Dr. Vukelic is an osteopathic physician trained in key lesion sequencing, biodynamic osteopathy, and cranial osteopathy. She trained directly with Dr. James Jealous and Dr. Ed Stiles, including cranial osteopathy with a sutural approach and the curved tensegrity model of Dr. Beryl Arbuckle. She is a member of the Cranial Academy and the American Academy of Osteopathy, and serves as a table trainer with the Indiana Academy of Osteopathy. Osteopathy can also benefit patients with a history of traumatic brain injury, concussion, headaches, dental issues, and TMJ dysfunction.
Dr. Vukelic is also one of only two physicians in the world certified by Dr. Stuart McGill in spine biomechanics and low back disorders. The McGill Method is a separate clinical offering for patients with chronic low back pain.
She addresses the unique issues of CIRS patients through a comprehensive approach blending functional medicine, environmental medicine, preventive medicine, osteopathy, and nutrition.
