Brendan Sotomayor, Proficiency Partner Diplomate

Dr. Brendan Sotomayor was born and raised in the Chicagoland suburbs where he graduated from Carl Sandburg High School. He then obtained a BS in Integrative Physiology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Iowa. Missing home, Dr. Sotomayor came back to Chicago where he attended medical school at Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine. There, he learned to “treat the human spirit” and matched into an emergency medicine residency program at Resurrection Medical Center. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2019 and first worked in Northwest Indiana where he practiced board certified emergency medicine in a busy emergency room treating critical patients from low-income areas. Although Dr. Sotomayor lived a healthy lifestyle, he began to become ill shortly after starting his career in the ER. Following his never-ending thirst for knowledge and the truth, he began to search for the root cause of his illness. This journey led him to being diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) a year later. Shortly after, Dr. Sotomayor was drawn to the Driftless region of Southwest Wisconsin to practice medicine and set up a regenerative organic restorative farm. There, he practiced in the Viroqua, Wisconsin emergency room. While treating patients, Dr. Sotomayor began to understand firsthand how prevalent CIRS was in the medical system and saw a tremendous need for treatment of these patients. Thus, he pursued training in the Dr. Shoemaker protocol and decided to open his own online practice, Nuerth (New-Earth) Medicine, so he could start to fill this incredible need for physicians proficient in the management of CIRS.

In his free time, Dr. Sotomayor focuses on his sustainable regenerative farm and has a passion for improving the treatment and energy that goes into raising animals. Thinking from the lens of a curious regenerative farmer, he has the opportunity to explore innovative and integrative ways to change the relationship between humans and their food.
